In Prague
So... Here I am, out of the Germanies.I"ll be staying in Prague for several days.... get to see some of the nightlife, as well as important historical landmarks. I"m staying at a fairly nice hostel named Sir Toby"s; there"s plenty of restaurants and some small grocery stores nearby; there is also a bar in the basement, very nice brickwork.
I"m a little relieved that I won"t be using Euros anymore. My purse strings are a little more fre now, but even so I think I will have to tighten them again. I went on a small splurge in Fussen with going out to restaurants with some of the other people from the hostel, and restaurants are expensive.
Unfortunaetly new picts won"t be uploaded, the computer I"m using here doesn't have a usb port available. Fussen was nice, though. Spent most of my time wandering around the mountains. On the lower slopes and peaks the fog had lifted when I got there but still on the highest parts there was thick fog. Made it hard to see the path, and in fact I stumbled on a few strange things while up there. An old cabin with every square inch carved in by knives, and a small memorial to a mountaineering accident (did I mention I couldn"t see anything when I got up there?)
On the 22nd I hiked my way to the next set of castles, over in Reutte...
It was about 30 KM to the south, over the pass and across several lanes of traffic. Had my thumb out in hitch hiking tradition the entire way and no-one stopped. Why is that? Surely I don"t look like some sort of hitch hiking murderer. I did make it in five hours, but it was getting dark by the time I got there and I had to book at a hotel with flies and burned bread for breakfast. Ugh....
The morning after that I hiked up to the Ehrenburg castles. Last time I was here they were overgrown, but now it seems the Austrian and EU government are estoring them. I had just missed a huge medieval type festival there, but the castles themselves were cool enough, and I got alot of excellant views of the valley below.
