Olomouc Again
Hmph.Well, Austerlitz was kindof a waste of time. The so called battlefield is nothing but a mess of fields and dirt patches. Nothing to see, and I was walking in the rain and the mud too.
The hotel I stayed at was the cheapest that I could find, but it wasnt all that great, they did have breakfast but I think it wasnt worth it. I was sick for the past week as well, nothing much just a minor cold, but that plus everything else made sure that my trip down to Austerlitz was not much fun.
Ah well, you cant win em all, right .questionmark.
I like Olomouc, though. Its a small town, with interesting churches and cobblestone roads. The parks tend to wind around, not confined to any one area, and the statues in the main square bring to mind the labours of Herakles. The slaying of the Hydra and the capture of the Nemean Lion, to be specific. For the past two weeks the sky has become a dull, pulsing grey, occasionally punctuated by rain or flashes of lightning. I wish that I could have seen the older buildings when they were in their prime, though. Green is a rather ugly color for a statue.
Though the churches are beautiful, with gilded gold statues and colorful paintings, in the end I am starting to feel that they are all the same. I have seen these before in Germany and Austria, and they are starting to wear.
In general, though, the Poets Corner Hostel that I am staying at is comfy and has many people coming in and out. I think I will be staying for another week here, get my bearings and decide where to head to next.
