Funny Money

Rambling Thoughts

I usually take out a good chunk of money whenever I come to a city or move to a new country. Sometimes its enough to get me by for a week, other times I have to keep getting money every few days.

Regardless, Dollars tend to buy alot in Eastern Europe, but after a while the change starts to pile up So this morning as I go for a walk I think: Hey, why not get rid of some of that change here? That is easier said than done, because not all banks exchange Czech or Hungarian money, which is the largest amount that I have in terms of leftovers. (Its also funny because both currrencies, the Koruna and Florint, take their names from what used to be fairly big things back in the day. The Crown and Florin, both of which were huge in the Late Middle Ages and Early Rennaissance, but now they're just really big chunks of metal and colorful paper.) Not only that, but nobody that I found would take coins. WTF? This is extremely irritating because I only have a couple of old czech bills left, but alot of coins in my pockets, and as far as I can tell, no one takes them. And they are worth less if I try to exchange them when I get back, plus when you add it all up, it does come to a fair amount. But all of it is worthless if I cant change to the right currency. Maybe it is bad banking practice to accept small denominations, but it is still irritating to me.
