Pickup and exploration

The Bard's TaleSpent today out and about around town, after picking up my lost luggage from the hostel. It was very gloomy, when I got in last night (at around 2300 no less) and it stayed that way when I went out to the western part of the city, as you can see in the pictures. They are of one of the bridges that lead to the Buda citadel, as well as certain parts of the castles and interesting views. More are uploaded into the archives.

Budapest is a very interesting city. Like most European cities it is many centuries old, and has an extensive old city. The old city here though has two parts, firstly an enclosed citadel on one side of the river, which is surrounded by more modern construction, and older architecture spread out all over the place on the other side of the river. Apparently it used to be the castle Buda and city of Pesht, and eventually they got merged. The Hungarian language has no local relatives, it is all alone in Europe, and speaking German Czech Romanian or anything else is no help. But I have heard that it is descended from a turkish tribe that long ago settled here...

It has been a very cold and gloomy day, fog has rolled in later tonight and I expect a long bus ride back to Prague tomorrow morning. After that I will be ending this trip. The flight back to the states in booked on December 3rd.
