Worries

General NewsWell, it's been an on and off summer. Several weeks have passed since my last major round of posts and my renewal last week. I've been trying to keep busy, but alot of this hiatus has to do with sheer laziness, and me trying to find a job. It's been one disappointment after another on that front. people not calling back, misinformation, "Oops sorry the position has been filled sorry to waste your time"-itis, y'know, the whole nine yards.

Against the Giants: Sessions six and seven.

Dungeons&DragonsI was a little late for the next session, so when I got there the party was exploring a room filled with sarcophagi. A hole in the wall was found, with Valxian, Rhonda, and Kenneth exploring it, as the hole was too small for characters with armor to go through. Tovena'ar was with Great Scott next to the double doors when a small party of humans and black skinned elves appear. "Who are you? What are you doing in our lair?"

Against the Giants: Sessions four, five, and six

Dungeons&DragonsThis game I've been playing in has had some really weird stuff going on. It's been about six weeks since the last session, however that will be rectified by this Friday. Here's the next chapter in this story, which I must admit, will come to an end by mid-august, which comes down to two or three more sessions. I will be heading to college, and since it is about a five hour trip I won't be coming back home to play.

Ultramarines Movie

Warhammer is alot of things. Videogames, tabletop miniature gaming, role-playing games, books, and now, a movie. For me, Warhammer is a fascinating study into a pure distillation of everything a punk-rock-nerd who played D&D while listening to Black Sabbath loves about fantasy and science fiction. Throw in some references to Tolkien, Heinlein, and other writers, some Epic-Level art, and a universe that's so depressing it makes Nietzsche look like an emo kid, and you have Warhammer 40K. I don't recommend it for kids or those with rose-colored glasses.

Webcomics are a pretty big thing on the internet. They can parody, humor, or dramatize.

Coyotes, Skinnies, Teen-age moms, and I.

General NewsOr, why the hell can't I get a job anywhere else?

Yes, I've finally managed to find a job. But it's of the worst kind. A temporary employment company named The Command Center located in Hopkins, a good twenty minutes drive on the freeway, plus more if traffics bad. And traffic is always bad in the mornings, when i get off of work.

The Hobbit in Russian

General NewsThis is something cool. The illustrations themselves are very different than what we see in the west. Just goes to show that different artists and different people have different conceptions of otherwise fairly well known characters.

Science Fiction vs Fantasy

ArticlesA couple of months ago I talked to some people who claimed to be from a "Sonic Eclectic Magaizne". they did have a website, and said that they were interested in articles about contemporary art and entertainment. I offered my.... "experience" in reading and science fiction movies. One of the guys mentioned Avatar, and asked if I could write an article about that. I answered that since I had not seen it, no, but I could write an article on science fiction in general.

A deal of sorts was hammered out; my article would be shown on their website if I could get it to them in a week. I would not be paid, but I figured that this might be a good start.

Sadly it all came to naught. I have not heard from them for several weeks now, and I've kept checking their site but my article has never appeared.

Ah well. I guess that's the hazard of meeting people via Craigslist.

I thought it was an OK article, so I'm putting it up here.

Against the Giants: Session Three, Part Two

Dungeons&DragonsAugust, 2009

At that moment the DM asks for Tovena’ars group to roll for initiative… and only that group. Just for clarity, we all tell him what we are doing at that exact moment: Tovena’ar is fumbling around in his robes, Duorddon is right behind me, and Hwonalon and the shaman are arguing about something in the back row. Great. Two out of four PCs will be sitting out this fight.

Against the Giants: Session Three, part one.

Dungeons&DragonsJeez, this was one long session. 5:30 PM on a Friay all the way to I think 4:00 am the next morning. there had to be about two dozen giants in the Great Hall, plus eleven or so of us and 200 orcs. Even with orcs, 200 allied warriors is nothing to sneeze at. Burl brought along three huge boxes stuffed full of Warhammer Fantasy Orcs and Goblins, along with the usual giant repertoire.

In case you're wondering, our D&D game uses miniatures and a small map to show the dungeon and where our characters our. It's a little like a game of Miniature Warfare.

Otherworld is a pretty good, albiet expensive, store of minis. (albiet, some of them are slightly Not safe For Work. Enter if you will.) Scroll down about halfway to find the giants. Mr. Hill Giant is the one that looks like Abe Lincoln.

My miniature isn't on there... one of these day's I'll upload a pic of it.
